What is the West Lothian Cycle Circuit?
Linlithgow Community Development Trust, a community-led charity, has ambitious plans to build a 1km traffic-free cycle circuit for everyone to enjoy. With support from the Council, the community, local clubs and national sporting bodies we are focussed on reaching our fundraising goal.
Our overall fundraising goal is to raise £681k. With £312k already committed from West Lothian Council, £344k grants/trusts in the pipeline, and a community fundraising target of £25k, we are working hard to make this project a reality.
This project will give people of all abilities and from all walks of life the chance to become healthier, more confident and happier, and connected with their community and environment. We know cycling has this impact.
Whether it’s used by children learning to ride a bike, people of all ages enjoying cycling on a safe traffic-free road, people with disabilities mastering the joy of riding an adapted bike or handcycle, or determined cyclists and paracyclists with their sights on sporting ambitions, the West Lothian Cycle Circuit will bring sport for change.
About the Cycle Circuit
Based in Scotland’s central belt, Linlithgow is within 50 miles of two thirds of Scotland’s population. This circuit has the potential to help Scotland become a cycling nation.
The closed road cycle circuit will be designed for easy access, suitable for all abilities including adaptive cycles and handcycles, as well as runners.
Two thousand people will benefit from this facility every year, with 25,000 visits per year.
The West Lothian Clarion Cycle Club, one of the most active cycle clubs in the UK and recognised for its ongoing work to develop the club, high class coaching and the achievements of its members, will be key users of the cycle circuit.
The cycle circuit is the first phase of a project that will see future development, including a skatepark, pump track and athletics track and field facility alongside the cycle circuit.
